Social and Personal. Mrs. J. B. Richards was a bridge hostess on. Thursday. * * * Miss Jean Mcßae has just returned from an enjoyable visit to her sister, Mrs S. Evans, Riverton, South Island. * * * Mrs. Geo. Cliarke, who spent the last two weeks with her mother, Mrs O. M. Cuntis is visiting her brother in New Plymouth. * * Mrs. D. Steven entertained some friends 1 at dinner on Thursday night. She was welaring a becoming black silk crepe frock, with gold ornaments on corsage and belt. * * * Mrs A. Wright, Mountain Road, entertained some friends on Friday afternoon. She was wearing a smart green floral marocain. Those present were: Mesdames K. McLean, Savage, W. Hall, R. Thompson, T. Brooks, Forsyth, and E. C. Gaw. * * * Mrs Gaw was “at home” both on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. She was wearing a becoming floral georgette, the drawing-room was prettily arranged with chrysanthemums, hydrangeas and berries. The guests were: Mesdames F. Frances, J. McMillan, N. Wills, Fleming, C. Campbell, N. Jones, S. McGregor, A. G. McKenzie, R. Sandom, C. Simons, R. R. Tyrer, R. Stokes, I. McMillan, Misses P, Brown and H. Houle. * * * Miss T. Mcßae, who leaves for England on May 19, was given a surprise party at- her residence, Pembroke Road, on Thursday night There were some sixty or seventy friends present, all gathered to bid her “bon voyage.” land presented her with a handsome hand bag for the journey Miss Tui Macßae was wearing a charming slim fitting dress of moire satin, and Miss Jean Mcßae wore la becoming frock of autumn tints. The evening was a very jolly one. * * * Mrs. L. G. Pope, Pembroke Road, entertained some friends at her re. sidence on Thursday afternoon and evening. She wore a smart purple ensemble in the afternoon, and in the evening a becoming brown Hlk velvet frock with gold lace. The guests were Mesdames A. G. McKenzie, Baden Bellringer, O. N. Ebbett, G. Carter, Sanders, C. Simons, R. Carrye<r, G. Boon, A. L. Morgan, R. Stokes, and Miss Ennis. The drawing room was tastefully decorated with bronze atffd gold chrysanthemums, autumn leaves and orange and gold iceland poppies.
