REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY. The Taranaki Rugby Union decided at last night’s meeting to play the Taranaki v. Canterbury representative match at Stratford on August 7. RUGBY GATES DECREASE. A comparative statement of gate returns for the first three fixtures of the 1937 season submitted to a meeting of the Managament Committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union last night showed a decrease of £IG IGs 3d in comparison with last year’s figures. SF’R NGBOKS’ VISIT. Th 3 Taranaki Rugby selectors will meet Rugby Union management committee representatives at New Plymouth to-morrow in connection with the selection of a team to meet Wellington on May 26 and to discuss the training preparations of the team to meet South Africa. GOVERNMENT HOUSES. When a party of members of Parliament visited Government houses in the course of erection at Miramar yesterday, Hon. R. Semple suggested that the christening of the first baby born in one of these homes should be made the occasion for a special celebration. Another suggestion made was that a bonus should be given to the parents of the first twins born in the new homes, Mr Semple expressing the opinion that the offer of a good bonus by the Under-Secre-tary for Housing, Mr J. A. Lee, might help to check the fall in the birth rate in New Zealand. TAUPO HOTELS. The Lake Hotel. Taupo, owned by the es'ate of the late Mr. J. Gallagher, Auckland, bat been acquired by Dominion, Pj-evveries, U'd., while, ransactions have been completed •n respect of the two other hostels at T. upo. The Spa Hotel has been purchased from the estate of S Charlton by Mr. T. A. Hcuth. formerly of Napier, who previously held a lease and Mr. J. P. Sheehan, has bought the Terraces Hotel from Messrs. Hanc r ’!< and Co., of Auckland. Bo h transactions, it is understood, have involved purchase prices of about £GOOO.
