MEMORIAL FUND
Minister’s Explanation Press Association-—Copyright-WeTTihgion, May 5. “My attention has beeii drawn to the fact that certain local bodies in their appeals for contributions to the King George Memorial Fund have, no fioqbt unwittingly, introduced an element of parochialism in so far as they have suggested that only portion of thor money collected would be handed over to the national fund and the remainder would be retained for local health camp purposes,” naid the act-ing-Prime Minister, Hon. P. Fraser, to-night. “This attitude is, of course, entirely alien to the spirit of the i fund and antagonistic to its objects, i and could be adopted only through I complete understanding of the puri poses of the Prime Minis er’s appeal. ■ “It is regrettable that any such | misunderstanding should exist and I i hope a few words of explanation will be sufficient to dissipa'e it) It should be remembered that the permanent health camps which are the objects of the fund are necessary for the comple ion of the heabh camp structure already evolved. They neither supersede nor interfere with local holiday and summer camps, nor will the methods of financing the local camps be in any way supplanted." The funds collected would be handed over to the trustees and would be administered by the national advisory board in the interests of children in all par s of the Dominion, town and country alike, added Mr Fraser.
