STAY-IN STRIKE
Napier Storeman’s Methods . Napier, May 6. Hawke’s Bay’s first stay-in strike began .yesterday morning shortly before 8 o’clock, when W. Wood, storeman in charge of one of Napier’s largest wholesale stores, walked in and inaugurated what is thought tc be the only example of a one-man stay-in strike ever attempted. He barricaded himself in effectively, and when the hour for opening the store came and the staff outside knocked at the large sliding door, the only means of ingress to the building, the voice of 'the storeman replied thjit the store would not be opened—yet. An urgent summons was sent to ‘the manager of the department, who was told through the substantial door that no one would be allowed to enter until the striker received an assurance that his wages would be substantially increased. An agreement was reached later in the day, when the striker v/alked out.
