PETROL STATION COMEDY
TWO STUBBORN MOTORISTS Refusal To Give Way .Sydney, April 24. Meeting face to face on the narrow ramp of a Sydney suburban service station, two stubborn motorists refused to give way, and faced each other tor three hours before they were compelled to move. The principals were an elderly retired sea captain and a leading architect. They entered the ramp from opposite ends and both bought petrol. Because he had arrived a few seconds before the architect, the captain 1 declined to back out, contending that the architect should give way. Nettled, the architect turned on his wireless, lolled back in his seat, and said, "Well, if you think that, you’ll have to wait. I’m prepared to sit here for an hour.” He sat there for three hours. The sea captain sat back ami smoked his pipe. Finally a lorry driver arrived ami insisted on having petrol from a pump which could not be operated without the removal of the two cars. Before the eyes of an interested and highly amused crowd, the proprietor induced both motorists to leave. Both backed out.
