OPIUM SMOKING

Chinese Fined £25 Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, April 30. Visiting a house in Taranaki Street last night about another matter, a constable noticed a trace of opium fumes. This resulted in an investigation, which brought a half-caste Chinese, Jackie Bor, before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., to-day charged with being found in possession of prepared opium and with having opium-smok-ing gear. He was fined £25 on the first charge and the second charge was withdrawn. Asked it he could not leave opium alone, Bor, through an interpreter, said he was an addict. He went to China when very young and there acquired the habit. The opium and gear were forfeited.
