Wood, Engineer in chief to die Public Works Department, who presided, Laid the impression that the Government was prepared to pay the whole of >tho cost of the tunnel road was ihis aken, .being based on a misunderstanding of the remarks by the Prime Minister. Mr. Wood’s statement provoked questions 'about the actual extent pf lie which the Government would give the project. These' Mr. Wood said he could not answer. He quoted the- Footing-Prime Minister, Hon. P. Fraser, as having suggested that th? Government might find half the cost. However, he added, it was i matter for the Ctjbin. t.
