CAUSE OF DESTRUCTION LOYALISTS BLAMED Petrol Sprayed On Wooden Buildings Press Association—Copyright. Received 11.5 a.m. London, April 29. A message from Hendaye states: ‘‘The insurgents assert that the destruction of Guernica, the ancient Basque capital, w as due to the Loyalists, before the evacuation, spraying petrol on the buildings of the principal neigh, bouring streets, which chiefly were of wood. “Thus a few incendiary shells were sufficient to turn the town into an inferno. Mines also exploded.” Repercussions of the raid on Guernica have roused indignation 'throughout Europe. English and French opinion and official quarters are deeply concerned. Germany angrily denies reports that German bombers were responsible.
