INCREDIBLE CRUELTY Devil’s Island For Guilty Man Press Association—Copyright. Received 12 noon. Paris, April 29. Roger Vernon, alias Charites La Croix, was found guilty of the-mur-der of Max Kassel, known, as “Re Max”, and was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment, to be followed by twenty years’ banishment. ■Suzanne Bertron, ege'd' 25, who was charged with being an accomplice, was acquitted. The murder took place in SohoLondon’s most, cosmopolitan area. The Public Prosecutor said that it was a murder of incredible cruelty, and that Kassel had suffered an hour’s agony before hi s death. The Public Prosecutor finally conceded that the jury might consider ihat*in the evil character of the murdered man they would find' mitigating circumstances. The senteiijce will be served on Devil’s Island.
