LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE

EFFECT OF BUDGET. GLOOMY VIEW TAKEN Iron and Steel Shares Remain Depressed. Press Association —Copyright. Received 1.30 p.m. London, April 21. The disposition of the market this morning was to take a gloomy veiw of the Budget. Industrials opened weak, and armament and shipping shares, especially, were depressed. Th e markets took better heart this afternoon, as it is realised not only that indusirDHs are considerably under the year’s high levels, but also that the new tax will leave companies a substantial proportion of increased profits. Iron and steel shares remain depressed, but shipping shares are slightly better. Rubber shares are stronger. Commodity shares are active and strong.
