INFANTILE PARALYSIS.

Normanby School Again Closed. No new cases of infantile paralysis had been reported when the “Central Press” communicated with Dr. F. W. W. Dawson, Medical Officer of Health, this afternoon. Two positive cases and a suspect were admitted to the Hawera Hospital yesterday from the Taiporohenui and Normanby districts. The Normanby School, which was reopened on Monday after beinc closed for 14 day. - ., was closed yesterday for a further isolation period. First in Waihi District. Press Association—Copyright. Waihi, April 21, The first case of infantile paralysis in this district is reported from VVnihi Plains. The patient is a girl aged ten, who was attending the Waihi school. She has. been sent to the Thames Hospital.

The closing of all schools in the Auckland district from Friday and the prohibition of attendance of children at picture (theatres and other places.' of assembly were recommended to the Minister of Education by the Hospital Board at a meeting today on account, of -the spread of infantile paralysis in the North Island. Dr. Hastings said that f all members knew infantile paralysis was spreading in the North Island. As the schools would break up in about three weeks it would be a .good move to recommend that they be closed next week. It was of no use closing the stable door <af'er the horse was out. Schools had been closed in other dis'ricts. The board decided to inform the Minister by telegram.
