RUGBY FOOTBALL COMPETITIONS

SATURDAY’S RESULTS IN THE PROVINCE.

STRATFORD TEAMS PERFORM WELL.

Fine weather on Saturday favoured the opening af the Rugby football season in Taranaki, and the attendances at the various matches gave promise of increased public interest in the sport during the season. Considering the few opportunities for players to train and strip in proper condition to meet the exigencies of match play, there was evidence on the whole of fairly good form, but in most cases the sound of the final whistle was welcomed by both sides. The grounds were in excellent order, and play was fast under the circumstances. Results: Northern Division. Southern Division. Tukapa 9, v. Stratford 0.8. 9. Hawera 12, v. Eltham 6. Stratford 30, v. Inglewood 8. Opunake 3, v. Athletic 0. Clifton 21, v. Old Boys 9. Okaiawa 21, v. Waimate 5. Kaponga 23, v. Patea 3.
