Well informed circles u'nHeratand that Herr Hitler will bring all three German cardinals and the whole bench of bishops to trial for high treason unless the Papal Encyclical is withdrawn. The charges would be based on the alleged smuggling from Germany to Rome of the documents on which the Encyclical wag based. In an Encyclical recently the Pope accused the Nazis of violating the Concordat and of encouraging the anti-Christian movement. Hie Holiness said he would not formally denounce the Concordat because his responsibility for the souls entrusted to hie care prevented him ignoring the remaining possibilities of an ununderstanding.
