STABLE AND TRACK NOTES. Items of Interest to Enthusiasts. Wellington Steeplechase. The value of the •Wellington Steeplechase this year is £lOOO, compared; with £750 lari! year. The big hurdle race the third day, the Winter Hurdles, has gone up from £5OO >to £750. Sydney Trip Cancelled. Cernc Abbas and Royal Chief hav none out for a spell. The idea o* making a Sydney ‘rip wilt Royal Chief in the spring has been abandoned, and he has b en withdrawn from the A.J.C Derby. Contrasts. Black Banner, the So’il bland steeplechase “find,” is described as by Balboa from a Black and Red mare, and liis dam must have been a fr.irly ripe old age when she produced the horse owned by Mr A. C. Mills, Black and Red was foaled in 1892 and gat by Maxim from Aquatate, by July—Tevedo, by Apremon't. Only one mare found her way info the Stud Book as a producer, and thrl; is HalloVi'c’tn, the dam of four living foals. Black Banner is now seven years old. Heroic’s Place. When the first quarter of the pro uent season closed in Australia, Heroic was placed third in the winning sires’ list. In the interval yhe progeny of the New South Walesbred horse have placed him in front with a substantial lead, and it is made quite clear Heroic will hold a commanding position for the fifth successive year. At the close jf last season Heroic’s progeny had vvGln £133,777, and there seems every prospect of the total being increased to more than £153,000 -when the 1936-37 season closes in July. Veteran’s Consistency. The veteran Lough Neagh, whoso success in the Cumberland Plate at Randwick recently was one of Ithe highlights of the meeting, has brought his stake earnings up to £18.861, and is the biggest winner among horses now racing in Australia. He has been a consistent performer. This is emphasised by the fact that the biggest prize he has won is £1570, and he has won only on e other race v'orth more than £lOOO. Adventures of Copyist. Prior to his loss of form as a four-s’.ar-old, Copyist had won many good races for Sir Charles Clifford and 'takes in excess of £l5OO. Mr H. Moore, GreymouLh, bought him for £6O and for ’that owner he won in the following season four races, while he was six times placed. In all, he won over £3OO for Mr Moore, who several months ago put him in the tale ring. He was bought by Mr A. Stewart, Kumara, for £l3. For his present owner he has won £2OO, having won three times and come second once in his last four staifs. Handicapper’s Interest. Mr J. E. Henrys very rarely erred cn the side of. leniency when handicapping winners, and ladled out the pondage with fairly liberal measure, ■ays a southern writer. When the late J. McComb© was racing Pyjama, th© Martian —Bloomer gelding won quite a number of races under Mr Henrys’ adjustments, which never seemed to overload him. McConibe was a bit of a wag, and when asked v.'hy Pyjama was always apparently well treated and racing under’ a light weight, replied: "Henrys has an ‘interest’ in him,” but failed /to add.
