Increase in Tonnage Construction. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, April 14. Merchant shipping under construction in Bri ain and Ireland at the end of March for .the first time since September, 1930, exceeded 1,000,000 tons. Lloyds statistics thow that on March H there was an increase of 50,812 ons in the work in hand compared wi'th the figures for -the previous quarter. The present total of «tonn-age under construction, 1.014,545 tons, exceeds by more than 20 per cen\ ‘the tonnage b Jlng buiJtj at the of March, 1936. It exceeds considerably ‘.he aggregate tonnage now under con. struct ion in four leading countries abroad. The. total tonnage under construe! ion in the 'World amounts to 2,452,051 tons.
