CROWDED SCHOOL.
CLASSES IN PASSAGES. Complaint at Rotorua. Rotorua, April 15. The question of overcrowding at the Rotorua High School was dis. cutsed at a meeting of the board ot governors of the school last night when resentment was expressed' at the indifference displayed by the Edu. oation Department and also by the Minister, Hon. P. Fraser, in regard to the position. The mat er was raised when the headmaster, Mr W. G. Harwood, referred to the condiiione of overcrowd ing prevalent at the school and urged the board once agpin to take the matter up with the authorities. At pre. sent, he said, classes 'ware being held in passage-ways and odd corners of •he school. Under such conditions he feared the nerves of the teachers would be affected and that the children would eventually be sufferers. The chairman, Mr R. B. Nefcbitt,
said that the position was most serious, and the building committee had been compelled to consider turning the boys’ cloakroom into a classroom. The cost would be £66, but although the Minister had been asked over a month ago to sanction the amount he had not even replied to the letter. It was finally decided to enlist the support of the member for the district, Mr A. F. {Honour, and to make very effort to impress the serious nature of the position upon the authorities.
