Miss Hope Penn left this morning for Goromandel on a brief visit. * * * Miss Spence, of Whakatane, is at present the guest of her sister, Mrs. P. Thomson, Percy Avenue. * * * Mrs. G. Clarke, of Waverley, is at present visiting her mother, Mrs. O. Curtis, Broadway south. * * * Mrs. Hall, of Auckland, is at present visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs W. J. Hall, Swansea Road. * * * Mrs W. H. H. Young, Brecon Road, whs hostess of a most enjoyable bridge evening on Wednesday, given as a farewell to Miss P. Rheindhart, who will leave for Masterton on Monday. Mrs Young was wearing a smart frock of floral lame georgette, with gold thread through jade and flame colourings. Miss Rheindhart, the guest of honour, looked charming hi midnight blue crepe, with a corsage spray of pink gardenias. The guests were: Mesdames R. Curtis, E. McCullough and Newell, the Misses M. Malone, B. Masters, M. Lyons, R. Furrie, P. and &. Knowell, McFale. ! and L. Penn. * * * Mrs. H. P. North, Page Street, gave a delightful gift afternoon tea-party on Wednesday for Miss Hope Penn, who is to be married shortly. The hostess was gowned in wine-coloured windswept satin. Her daughter, Mrs Parsloe, of Normanby, wore floral georgette, and the guest of honour looked charming in navy blue georgette, with scarlet and reseda spots. The guests present were: Mesdames Ch. Penn, J. Fredric, P. Thomson, W. Williams, Rowell, W. Brown, Gaw, W. Shaw, R. Tyrer, W. Farquharson the j Misses H. and L. Penn, M. Malone, ; M. Lyons, N. Thorpe, M. and E. Connor, R. Furrie, B. and O. Masters, M. Woods. There were amusing com- ! petitions, the first being won by Mrs J. Fredric and the second by Mrs R. Tyrer. Apologies were sent from Mesdames Hunt, G. Hall, G. Clark, K. Pegg, and Miss E. Hodges. Miss H. Penn received many charming and , useful gifts.
