FASHIONS ABROAD.
“HOUR-GLASS” FIGURE Saucy Hats with Flowers and Feathers. London, April 9. An hour-glass figure with waist definitely corseted, a revealing decollete in the evening, skirts too tight for any petticoat, or -widely-floating over stiffened silk ruffles will be the highlights of fashionable dressing for the Coronation. This information comes straight from Schiaparelli. Her offerings, which will be the same basically as those of the other great fashion houses, though more fantastic in detail, can be described as “formally romantic.” Schiaparelli’s hats will be saucy, with flowers ’and feathers, and of varied shapes. Her smartest shoes- are made of kidskin, and her gloves have no left and right, but may be worn on either hand. Embroideries, Her printed silks use designs of birds and- flowers, butterflies, bees and farmyard animals. The British materials used for her suits are Harris and other Scotch tweeds, Viyella and Sandringham linen, and- American cottons are also featured, in gay prints. Brilliant and baroque embroideries are much used for Loth day and evening wear. To accentuate ‘the curved-in waist, lapels are broad and flaring, armholes roomy, and shoulders broad. The swing skirt for day wear is the most popular.
