STRIKE IN CANADA.

MEDIATION PROCEEDINGS Settlement Predicted. New York, April 12. A message from Oshawa, Ontario, States that the Union has accepted the offer of the Canadian Minister of Labour, Mr N. M. Rogers., to aid in mediation in the strike at the plant of .the Genera! Motors Corporation of C.anadja. Mr Thompson, of the Automobile Workers’ Union of America, predicted a statement as a result of the conference to be held between ithe union president, Mr Homer Martin, and the vice-president of the corporation, Mr W. S. Knudsen, at Detroit to-morrow. The Premier of Ontario, Mr Mit. chell Hepburn, made public is’age and hour concessions which the company offers for a settlement without recognition of the union, including increases ranging from five to seven , cents an hour. He pleaded with the strikers ’to accept these.

CABINET CRISIS.

Mr. Hepburn’s Ultimatum To Two Ministers. New York, April 13. The Toronto correspondent of the New York Times says ilt is learned that a crisis has arisen in the Ontario Cabinet due to opposition to the position of 'the Premier, Mr M. Hepburn, in connection wi.h the Osliawa strike. It is understood that Mr Hepburn insisted that the Minister of Labour, Mr D. A. Croll, and the Attorney. General, Mr A. W. Roebuck, must decide to.day whether they will support his strike policy or resign from Cabinet. Bath., were absent at the time and the situation hjas become acute. The strike leaders cantendi that Mr Croll promised ithat strikers would be eligible for relief, which conflicted wi.h Mr Hepburn’s stand. The two Ministers returned during the 'Week-end. It is understood they privrltely informed Mr Hepburn of their opposition to his policy. He insisted on a united Government front.
