WANDERING MUSICIAN
Free Lance Violinist From America. Christchurch, April 13. A wandering violinist of no mean accomplishment as a musician has arrived in Christchurch from St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States of America. He is Mr. George Pistorious, a former assistant concert master of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, who has set out on a world tour, describing himself as a free-lance musician and the last of the troubadours. He is making a study of the music of every country he passes through, paying his way principally by means of broadcast concerts. By means of his humble fiddle, in its travel-worn black case. Mr. Pistorious hopes to win his way to the great European centres of musical learning. With his shock of hair, his trim beard, and string tie, he cuts a picturesque figure, and there is no mistaking his avocation. He plays classical music and ballads chiefly, referring to his violin as his “meal ticket.”
