FALSE DECLARATION
Relief Worker Fined. Press Association—Copyright. Dunedin, April 9. It will be some years before John Reid is allowed to forget that he made a number of falsie declarations under the Employment Act. He pleaded guilty in the Police Court this morning to five charges under the Act. Chief Detective Young, who prosecuted, said that Reid was on relief work. He had made eight false declarations, but v as being charged' in respect of only five offences. He tailed to disclose that his. l wife was working and tha t she had been in regular employment since December Rte defendant received relief amounuting to £9B 17s in ercess of what he would have got if he had made a truthful state-men', ’ ~a i d Detective Young. Commenting that the amount involved was substantial, the Magistrate, Mrl H. W. Bundle, fined Reid £2O and costs on each of four charges, to be paid at the rate of five shillings a week. He was convicted only on the fifth charge.
