POPULAR ANZACS.
EMU FEATHERS EXCITE LONDON. Women Souvenir Hunters. London, April 4. Designers of Coronation hat stylet have been quick to seize on the plumes worn by the Australian Coronation contingent as a .motif. Girls’ hats are already appearing on the streets with feathers bunched at the side like the Anzacs’"feathers. They are not. emu plumes, but are a fair substitute. English women's liking tor the Australians' plumed hats is more inconvenient than flattering. A indication of the ravages of girl souvenir huntersl is given by the Daily Mail, which remarking how grand the tall Australians looked stalking through the crowds at Northolt Park pony races, says: "The Australians’ popularity with the ladies became most embarrassing. There was a keen demand for tlhe emu feathers that they wear in their hats. 'We have brought only two hats' apiece,’ moaned the quartermaster, Major W. G. Ruddock, but) the others did not seem to mind. By the end of the meeting the commanding officer. Colonel Lind, had moulted so badly that he looked as if he had been in the rain.” “London’s reception Loathe Coronation contingents from Australia and Rhodesia has proved how widespread is the interest in the overseas' forces?’ says Mr Cyril Hankinson, editor of "Debrett’s' Peerage." "Dominion ands colonial troops have not been seen in England since 1919, and they may not be seen again for a generation or more. “Accordingly, I suggest a march through London for all the Dominion, Indian, and colonial naval, military and air force contingents in order to enable the citizens’ of the Empire’s capital th give them a warm public welcome, 'Which might not otherwise be demonstrated. Moreover, 'after having travelled for many thousands of miles these men from overseas are surely worth a day on their own.’
