Social and PersonaL Mrs V. Simmons entertained friends at bridge on Wednesday. * * ■ Mrs. N. Thorpe was “at home” to a few friends on Tuesday afternoon. * * * Mrs. W. J. Hale was “at home” on Friday afternoon. * * * Mrs. L. Furrie was a bridge hostess on Thursday. . * * * Mr. and Mrs 1 . W. Bates, who have been holidaying In the Auckland dis trict, have returned to Stratford. * * * Miss Adams, of Auckland, is spend ing a few’ weeks in Stratford after many years’ absence. * * * A smart black crepe de chine frock was iVt'orn by’ Mrs. Connor, Pag* Street, when she entertained on Thursday afternoon. Those present were: Mesdames Rowell, R. R. Tyrer, C. Marchant (Cardiff), and the Misses Wood and Connor. * * * Mrs. S. Pitt, Mountain Road north, had a jolly little bridge party on Fri day night. Those present were: Dr. Doris Gordon, and Metdames J B. Richards, G. Hale, D. Steven, L. Smith, J. Hunt and F. Uniacke.
