Tariff Changes. Press Association—Copyright. Wellington. April 7. Tariff changes involving- substantial reductions in respect of imported maize were announced to-night by the acting-Minister of Customs, Hon. M Fagan. “The Government has decided that the duty of Is 6d a cental, payable under the British preferential tariff, on the whole maize under ihe general and on crushed maize are also to be reduced by Is fid a cental,’’ said the Minister. “An Order-in Council to give effect io this decision will ihortl.v be gazetted. “This action is being taken owing to the existing shortage of maize and • owl wheat in the Dominion, and will ibPly to ail shipments. of maize, noth' whole and crushed, imported on and after March 1 last. The new sea son’s crop of New' Zealand/grown maize will, the Government is inform sd. be on the market from Aiiguct 1 next, and it is hoped the supplies available will be sufficient for Domillion requirements after that date.”
