INCREASED RENTALS.

Sports Ground Charges in Auckland. Auckland, April 8. All round increases in the rentals charged for ci'oquet and. bowling clubs and in the charges for . football grounds and cricket pitches were approved by the City Council to night. The new scale 'Will be adop'ed as from April 15 and in the case of rentals for the use of reserves by croquet, bowling and tennis clubs the lew charges will operate from the date of expiry of the present tenan cies. The superintendent of parks stated ihat the' charges, for the hiring of tootball grounds and cricket pitches were reduced some years ago on ac■'ount of the depression. Increased wages and s horter hours had added •o the cost of maintenance of all :ypes of spdris grounds.
