Annual Field Day at Waipuku A demonstration and an explanation of the points to be examined) in assessing a general utility farm horse were given by Mr W. J. Polson, M.P., several horses having been provided by neighbouring farmers. Mr Polson answered sereral questions and subsequently a judging competition- was 7| Id, £omilJtl|tors being placed -according to the proximity ot their selections With the order ot merit decided by Mr Polson. The results were:— Light horses: J. Ko valeski 1, R. Kovaleski 2, p. Thompson 3. Heavy horses: J, Capper 1, M. Hooker 2, J. W. Morrisey 3. There were 13 entries altogether. His reasons for placing the horsein the order chosen we»e given by Mr Polson. A similar demonstration on a number of pedigree Jersey cows provided by Mr Crosby was given by Mr H. J. Lancaster, Palmerston North who in a survey of the good and bad points to be watched in a Jersey cow, helj his audience *or nearly- an hour. A judging competition was alsc held, 55 entries being ~ received, including 25 from Stratford Technical High School pupils, under Mr H. C. Johnson, and other junior members. The placings were: Senior. J. Kovaleski 1, Mrs I. Crosby 2; junior, J. Ramsay 1, J. Johnston 2. The President, Mr C. H. Clemow, expressed appreciation of the work of the demonstrators and the club was congratulated by Messrs- Lancaster and Polson on the splendid attendance and the keen interest shown in the club’s work and by the club in its- organisation ot such field days for the benefit and instruction of members. Afternoon -tea was served by the wives of members of the Jersey club under Mrs W Crosby’s direction Mr Clemow thanked) the women’s committee for its work and referred to the excellence of the arrangements made by Mr and Mrs Crosby, whose property was ideal for the holding of the demonstration. Mr Polson presented ths triphtes awarded to place winners’ In the judging competitions. Apologies were received from Mr G. H. Bell, Oakura. president of the New Zealand Jersey Breeders' Association, and. Mr C. A. March -nt, president of the Taranaki Freisian Breeders’ Association.
