THE PRINCESS ROYAL.
ASSISTING THE KING. Return to Public Life. | i London, March 23. The Earl of Harewood and the Princeus Royal have been called in by the King and Queen to help them to full'll the many engagements at which the presence of a member of the Ruyal Family is required. Thei* Majesties are being overwhelmed with requests to appear at public functions in all parts of the country, and although the Duke of Gloucester has given up his military career in order to help, still further assistance is required in order to cope with the Royal Family’s engagements. Already the programmes of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke and Duchess of Kent are practically full up to the time o* the Coronation. The King has expressed a wish to keep himself free as far as possible for in portant matters of State, to which he intends to devote nearly his whole attention. The Queen also has many elaborate preparations to make lor the Coronation, and is hoping to- delegate to Royal relatives those public appearances which she cannot make herself. The Earl of Harewood and the Princess Royal will fulfil a large number of the Royal engagements in the north, tnd the earl will particularly devote himself to territorial and other functions associated with various aspects of the defence programme. In consideration of this new part in public life which he is being called upon to play, it is believed that he will be made a Duke in the Coronation honours list. The former PrinI cess Mary would thus .become i Duchess of Harewood, but would continue to ?je known by the senior title of Princess Royal.
