IN IRISH SEA
TWO SHIPS COLLIDE. LINER TARANAKI AND LAIRDSMOOR. Sunken Ship’s Passengers Press Association—Copyright. Received 9.45 a.m. London, April 7. The Shaw, Savill Company’s liner Taranaki, on her way to Liverpool from Wellington and Glasgow, collided with the steamer Lairdsmoor, of 1578 tons, in a thick fog in the Irish Sea. The Lairdsmoor, carrying six passengers and 321 cattle, was badly holed, and is reported to have sunk. The passengers were transferred to the Taranaki. Lifeboats arrived on the scene from Donnaghadee within eight minutes of the collision. The Shaw, Savill Company received a message from the captain of the Taranaki, stating that they had rescued all the passengers and crew on the Lairdsmoor, with the exception of the captain and a fireman, who, it is feared, were lost.
GROUNDED IN FOG. Italian Steamer Off Isle of Wight. Press Association —Copylight. Received 11.30 a.m. London, April 7. The Italian steamer Luiguiaccame grounded in a fog off the Isle of Wight. The crew were saved by a lifeboat, but it is feared that the vessel will be a total wreck.
