MUSIC SOCIETY.
STRATFORD BRANCH Successful Year’s Activities The annual meeting of the Stratford branch of the British Music Society was held laist night, the M'ayor, Mr J . W. McMillan, presiding. There was an attendance of 27 members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Jolly, Davis, Dickson, Allen, Hughson, and Anderson. A statement of receipts and expenditure presented to the meeting showed a credit balance of £4/11/3. In moving the adoption of the report (already published in the Central Press), Mrs Percy Thomson said she felt that the year had been a very successful and enjoyable one. If the membership increased as it had done last year, the society could afford to have more visiting artists. In concluding, Mrs Thomson expressed the hope that the coming year would be one of great musical value. The Mayor congratulated the society on the splendid year’s work, which, he' said, reflected great credit on the officers pf the society. Although a member of the society, Mr. McMillan explained that on account of his Mayoral duties he was unable to attend many of the society’s functions and he suggested that a programme be given on the same evening as the annual meeting. The meeting was open to all, and an attractive programme would probably have £he effect of increasing the membership. The great object of the society was to build up the membership so as to be able to secure more outside talent. I A letter was read from Miss Valerie ! Corliss, of Wellington, honorary ori ganiser of the British Music Society, I conveying the good wishes and con- | gratulations of the headquarters’ ! council.
