FORTY-HOUR WEEK.

All shops in the city, except those that sell food, were closed to-day and will close again to-morrow in accord ance with a decree enforcing a- fortyhour week. Similar arrangements Will continue in future, Sunday will be the general closing lay throughout France in towns of more than 10,000 Inhabitants, but the second closing day will be chosen according Ito local needs. A forty hour week will begin on April 12 for the banks- and the Stock Exchange, which, will close on Satur days and Sundays. Another decree prohibits employers from accepting payment from employees or ‘Withholding parft of wages, thus stopping workers from buying employment or subsisting solely on <ips.
