HECTIC BUYING
ADVANCE IN WOOL. FINAL WELLINGTON SALE. Yorkshire and Continent Well to the Fore. Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, April 3. What is believed to be the final Wellington wool sale of the 1937 series opened to-day. There was a large attendance of buyers, and from the outset they appeared to be feverishly eager for wool, at any rate for crossbreds. Nearly 29,000 bales were submitted. Yorkshire was prominent, and the Continent was well to the fore for pieces and lambs’ and other wools suitable for its requirement. The first catalogue of nearly 8000 bales was disposed of under hectic conditions of buying, and not a single lot was passed in. The second catalogue, of nearly 4000 bales, had a similar reception. Compared with the results of the last Wellington sale in February, it is suggested that the market to-day was 2Jd to 3d per pound better. The actual advance cannot be accurately stated until the official range of prices is issued. Typical prices were: Cor.riedale, 19d to halfbred 18Jd to 20-ld, threequarterbred 18d to 19jd; Southdown, 18d to 19jd; Romney, 18d to 19Jd; merino, 17i}d to 21Jd; fine crossbred, 18d to 19i|d; medium crossbred, 18d to ! 18;’d; coarse to 18Jd; crossI bred hoggets, 17d to 19d; 1 ewes, 17Jd to 19]d; lambs, i crossbred 16Ad to 19£d; lambs, ' halbred, up to 16id; crossbred, bellies and pieces 13d to 15Jd; merino, pieces 123 d to 153 d; crutchings 113 d to 163 d; necks, 17d to 173 d.
