SPLENDID FIELDS. Review of Horses in Form (By “ODDS ON.") The Avondale Jockey Club’s first day on Saturday has drawn splendid fields and a great day’s racing may result. Should the going be firmer than the previous week at Ellerslie many different winners’ names should grace the merit board. The totalisator will operate under the single pool system, 75 —25 per cent. A review ot the fields follows and may be ot equal assistance as last week. ROSEBANK HANDICAP, of £l3O. Seven furlongs.—Ferndale 9.0. Tip Toet, Bass 8.3, School Song 8.0, 1... Brioni 7.11, Morning Sun, Thurwind. Hutana, Byce Street, Aero Queen. Harbour Bridge, Ivy Willonyx. Inqui sitor, Cometarium, Royal Mistake 7.10. Tip Toes, Ferndale and Thurwind have been a long while trying to win and the extra distance may be to their liking l . Better prospects appear to be Bass. Snhool Song and Droll, with fair support for Bryce Street, Brioni, Harbour Bridge, Inquistor, Morning Sun and Cometarium. In a seven furlong maiden anything may pop up. One mile and three quarters.—Mode rn Maid 11.0, Valpai 10.9, Sandy Dix, Black Marlin, Prince ot Orange 10.7, Sandrift 9.12, Booklaw 9.6, Rozel, General Ruse, Erase 9.0. Modern Maid should now be ready for one whilst Valpai and Sandritt may be hardest to beat. Sandy Dix drops from favour by recent falls but only needs to stand up to extend them all. Black Marlin and Prince of Orange may need the race whilst a maiden in Rozel is an interesting entrant. Saluting the judge may be MODERN MAID. VALPAI. The field of 18 acceptors produce a difficult task but Palustre back amongst hacks may hold it over Paso Robles and Valamito, both of whom are expected to perform well. Surella is seldom a generous galloper whilst Strathire and Trouvaille may find the distance too short. Merial has struck much trouble in recent starts but may effect a surprise. Glen Abb i is an improver for which good sup- | port may come. Dutch Girl is good but has no recent racing. Any one of the remaining ’tine on the minimum is capable of effecting a surprise but Royal Passage, Very Glad and Bronzette appeal mostly. A very open event may result PALUSTRE. MERIAL. M'aister Brifrly 8.7, Miss Lu 8.4, Velocipede, Royal Appellant 8.2, Lagoon 8.0, Sinking Fund, Knight of Australia 7.13, Shy, Lorn acre 7,12, Gay Rose 7.10, Valrent. Round Up, Gay Broney, Loombination 7.7. Defections leave an evenly weighted field of 16 acceptors with Mazir at the top. Granted dry conditions he should be close up whilst Gay Talkie at top form is also likely. Master Briefly beat a much better field than this when he won the Herries Memorial, consequently his rise of 41b gives him a royal chance. Miss Lu and Sinking Fund are good ones who always secure their turn.. Velocipede was lame and expected to be spelled but has accepted. Royal Appellant prior to Ellerslie had a bad joint but raced to secure a fourth billet and if produced sound should win. Lagoon appeals as a strong prospect with only eight stone and has been consistently placed. Shy may be her greatest danger. Gay Rose won well on Tuesday and has previously succeeded in this company. Lornacre was an early Ellerslie selection but defected, letting many down. Valrent and Gay Broney are bright prospects whilst Round Up and Loombination are not chanceless. Likely ones are LAGOON. OAKLEY HANDICAP, or £l3O Five furlongs.—Airam 10.2, Nuclei 8.10. Dragon Moth 8.1, Lapidarian, Son o’ the Soil, Silver Eagl:, Ti Tree geld.. 7.9. Strccone 7.5, Highborn, Romani, White Foam. Desert Wings. Aero King, Land Girl 7.7. This flutter has Airam well cared for with 10.2 but she is good enough to carry it providing an even start eventuates. Nuclei may show an improvement on Tuesday’s effort, whilst Highborn has recovered and ready to secure a place. Saccone, recently rested, has come to hand quickly but is green. Son of the Soil, Desert Wings, Aero King and Land Girl are good young horses asking for respect. Dragon Moth finished on Tuesday but that is not true form, much better is expected for he won decisively at Ellerslie In January beating many good ones. Romani and White Foam have been pleasing for four months, the others have no form. Barrier positions may assist in th 6. choice from NUCLEI. DRAGON MOTH. Calcutta and Raeemosus have good form and heavy loads, which Calcutta appears able to carry to victory. Prince Rangi appeals over Survoy and King Theo, but Black Mask is due for one. Tutor has dropped in the weights, when a return to form would produce trouble. Professional who Is in nicely, can run a good mile and may produce something sunstantial. Ringshot is a likely one whilst Melvanui also should carry strong support. Bonny Glow meets many to extend her here. Racette and Te Broney are not chanceless, but the others will beat long prices. Seven acceptors here have previous engagements but if Tybalt and Valrent are produced here, they would command plenty of support. Likewise S'tar Artist and Prince Rangi. Crooning and Bonny Gay strongly appeal whilst support should also come for Legatee, Wlnlona, High Tea, Whakapara and Kilberis. Allowing for possible defectors, the result could be, BONNY GAY.
