SHIPPING FREIGHTS IMPROVE.

Over £40,000 Paid for Old Vessel. Press Association—Copyright. Received 10.10 a.m. London, April 1. The recent improvement in freights has sent up the values of second-hand cargo ships. The Manchester Hero, of 9100 tons, was sold for over £40,000. This is a remarkable figure for a 21-year-old vessel, which would have fetched £BOOO a few years ago. The Greek steamer Sylvia, of 3175 tons, which was built in 1889, has been sold for £9300 for scrap.
