MARVELLOUS ESCAPE.
Motorists’ Experience at Wellington. Press Association —-xirryrrgbt. Wellington, March 31. To emerge without even a scratch when almost the entire side of the car in which they were travelling vias smashed in by the projecting ends of tramway rails, which were being car■ied on a motor-truck was the experience of three Hastings residents at Wellington to-daj. They were Mr and Mrs. Cecil Duff, and Miss M. Duff. The truck, driven by Mr. J. Jesp, of Wellington, was laden with two 40ft. lengths of tramway rails. The front of tbe rails projected past the cab of the truck and struck the left hand side of Mr. Duff's car, forcing it obliquely across the road for about 15 feet. The left-hand head-lamp, mudguard and bonnet were crumpled, the windscreen completely shattered, and the doors and supports broken in two and forced into the body of the car. The back of the front seal was jammed solidly against the rear seat, almost imprisoning Miss Duff, who escaped with nothing more than a severe shaking. The windscreen was' shattered cleanly and the passengers were not oven scratched by flying glass.
