EGG CIRCLE

YEAR'S OPERATIONS. Large Increase in Number Handled. An increase of 18,641 dozen eggs handled during the year ended December 31, 1936, was reported at the annual meeting of suppliers ot the Stratford Egg Circle, held last night. Mr. A. J. Davey presided. The year had been a very successful one. the amount paid to suppliers being £2611, stated the report presented by the chairman. During the year the Circle had handled 42,279 dozen eggs, as against 23,638 dozen for the year 1935, and the amount realised was £2835/18/2. The average payout was 1/22, as against 1/01 for the previous year. The price of feed had greatly increased, but the increase was not sqf serious to the poultry-farmers as the l poor quality forced upon them. The executive bad purchased £864 worth of produce on behalf of members, the bulk of it being secured from Australia. It proved much better in quality than New Zealand feed. Government Control. During the last few months the Government had purchased Messrs. Picot Bros.’ business and had appointed Mr. F. Picot as manager, but up to the present time the executive had no information as to the Government's intentions with regard to egg control. In the opinion of the executive, Government control would not be well received by poultry-farmers. The chairman also reported that he had been appointed by the District Council as delegate to the New Zealand Poultry Producers’ Federation Conference. Officers were elected as follows: Chairman. Mr A. J. Davey; commit* tee, Messrs. R. Penniall, W. Pepperell, H. J. Hopkins, F. Kirkwood, W. Benefield. G. S. Strack, W. Hardy Jones, W. E. Jones, L. B. Leech; secretary and treasurer, Mr. D. Carman. Members expressed appreciation ot the worth ot the chairman and secretary during the past year.
