Bid for Equality. Melbourne, March 31. “China no longer is a land of ragged armies, political chaos and industrial inefficiency. She is ready now to take her place among the nations of the world on an equal basis,” said the Consul-General for China, Dr C. J. Pao, in an interview). “Never before has China been so politically united,” Dr. Pao added.
“Never before has she been more friendly towards the British Empire. “But the world must realise that China can no longer be exploited. She is willing to trade on equal terms and is anxious to develop her trade relations.” The country needed raw materials, and Australia could supply some of these needs, he added. "China deserves peace,” Dr Pao said, “but we are not unprepared. The Chinese Air Force has been built up to a powerful force, and Chinese pilots are acknowledged to be among the finest in the world,”
