Maxwell, formerly of Taranaki and latterly a resident of Tauranga. He was the author of “Afforestation in Southern Lands” and “Recollections and Reflections of an Old New Zealander.” Captain F. Marriott, C.M.G., d blind member of the Australian Par- | (lament, arrived at Wellington in the Awatea yesterday. Captain Marriott will spend a month travelling over both Islands, and will make a study of New Zealand's legislation and conditions generally. He is interested more particularly in agricultural methods and schemes, the unemployment situation, and public works.
