Casey Shield Won by v Kaponga A Team. The 17th annual ssven-a-side Rugby tournament of the Kaponga .Athletic Club, held on Saturday, was won by the Kaponga A team. Twelve teams competed. The winning team received the Casey Shield and the members a miniature silver football each, while the Hockin Cup was the trophy for the runner up. Last year Stratford was the winner and Hawera the runner-up. Kaponga won the con petition previously in 1921 and 1924
The first r< und winners were Athletic, Kaponpa C, Clifton, Hawera, Kaponga A and Stratford. In the second round Athletic beat Kaponga C, Haw-era beat Clifton, which in the first round defeated Inglewood B by 27 to 3, and Kaponga A beat Stratford, holder of the Shield. In the semi-final Haw-era beat Athletic and the final w. nt in favour of Kaponga 4 by 20 points to 5, the winner's score comprising four converted tries.
Tukapa Repeats Success at Oakura. Tukapa lagain provided the winning team a-t the Oakura junior seven-a-side tournament, and thus for the second time Tukapa secures the Barnes Cup and seven miniature medals; the seven silver medals going to the Okato team members as runners-up. Last year the Tukapa B team was the winner out of nine teams, whereas this year the winner was Tukapa A out of 14 teams.
TARIKI TEN-A-SIDE WON BY KAPONGA TEAM.
The Tariki 'ten-a-side tournament, played yesterday, was won by the Kaponga A team. Ten teams competed, three from Kaponga, one from Clifton, and one each from Okaiawa, Stratford, Okato, Egmont Village and Tariki. The rain did not cease throughout the day and forward play predominated. Kaponga A, Clifton A, Stratford, Okaiawa and Tariki reached the second round, and although Okaiawa beat. Stratford without extra time being required, the Kaponga-Clifton and Ta-riki-Okaiawa matches both lasted over half an hour, four spells being played in each case without score. Kaponga finally scored a try against Clifton, last year’s winner, and Tariki forced Okaiawa over its own goal-line. Both teams were tired for the final, in which Kaponga’s superior strength, after a long period of rest, asserted itself against a local junior combination. In the first round Stratford beat Clifton B 6 —o. Mail and Thompson scored tries for Stratford. Against Okaiawa in the second round Stratford lost 6 —3. R. Cuff iked a penalty goal for Stratford.
