HUGE DIVIDEND. UNWORTHY’S BIG PRICE Totalisator Shows Increase Hawera, March 29. A sensational dividend of more than a triple century was paid by Univ'orthiy, winner of the Opunake Handicap, the sixth race, at the second dlay of the Hawera Trotting Club’s meeting. Red Flush repeated his performance of the first day and won the principal race of the day, the Waimate Plains Handicap.
Eight horses started in the Opunake Handicap and. Unworthy, n.laking his fourth start for the meeting, was supported by only five bettors for a win. Unworthy is trained by R. J. Hail'd (Midhirst), who also 1 drove him to victory.
The total totalisator receipts for the two days were £29,7724 lOt, compared with £20,875 10s last year, an increase of £8849. The totalisator Dandle® £15,337 10s yesterday, compared with £11,459 10s for the second day last year.
The canteen of cutlery which accompanied the cash prize for the winner of the principal race wlas presented by Miss Edna Washer, daughter of the vice-president of the club, Mr E. A. Washer, to Miss Veri Johnstone. v,*ho accepted it on behalf of Mr H. Murphy, the owner of Red Flush. The president, Mr B. McCarthy, congratulated Mr Murphy upon his double victory at the meeting, and referred to the fact that Red Flush had received an additional five seconds handicap for the second day. He congratulated Mr M. Stewart upon hie. driving. Results are:—
