The death took place at Dargaville on Friday morning of Mrs F. A. Jones Mayoress of that town for upwards of ten yearsk The late Mrs. Jones was an enthusiastic’- worker in a large number of public institutions in the North and her passing will be widely mourned.
Members of the Eltham Company of Girl Guides, accompanied by friends, attended a “twopenny” social evening held in the home of the captain, Miss P. Spencer, on Friday, the object of the function being to aid company funds. ' Games and competitions were held and aJ jolly evening was spent. Miss D. Gower, who’ is shortly to be commissioned as an officer of th© company, assisted Miss Spencer in organising the function. An apology was received from the lieutenant, Miss D. Vause, who, through indisposition, was unable to attend.
