CORONATION GREETING

GIRL GUIDES. Message To King To Be Signed at Stratford. A Coronation message from the Girl Guides of New’ Zealand to His Majesty the King, which will bear the teal of the city or borough authorities throughout New Zealand, was started on its journey from Wellington on Friday afternoon by His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Galway, and it is expected that the message will arrive in Stratford about 5 .o'clock this afternoon. The local Girl Guides will provide a guard of honour and the message will be received by the Deputy-Mayor, Dr. W. P. P. Gordon, in the absence of the Mayor, Mr J. W. McMillan. After the message has been sealed it will be handed to a Guide, who will carry it a further stage on ft* why throughout the Notrtih Islanii. The message, which is carried in a copper cylindrical case, is written on vellum. In Maori, with an English translation, is as fol low t: - To our illustrious chief across the seas, the Centre-Pole of the Empire, the Rare White Crane—Our humble salutations. We greet you and your greenstone ornament. our gracious Queen, and your children. This is but the small voice of your children of Aotearoa, an outpost of your Empire, giving expression to their joy and gladness on your Coronation Day. vv e rejoice and are proud to, know that our gracious sovereigns are intimate with our work as guides. Today you sit upon the throne of your illustrious ancestors as head* of this great Empire. Very humbly we express our constant loyalty and love to you both—God bless our King and Queen."

A decorated map showing its journey in the Dominion, delineated on a prepared sheepskin, will accompany the address to London.
