ELLERSLIE RACES.
SEMI-FINAL GALLOPS. Auckland, March 23. The weather was fine, though muggy, for the semi-final gallops for the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting at Ellerslie this morning, and some good times were recorded on the course proper, on which the poles were out 40 feet.
The No. 3 grass and tan tracks were also available, the bulk of the work being carried out on the first named.
The best efforts of the morning were those of Kilonsoa, Shy, Crooning, and King Neptune. Kiloneoa (Wiggins) wias sent seven furlongs. She ran the first two in 24 2-ssec., and four in 49 2-ssec., and completed the full distance in 1.28X4-5. It was an excellent work-out, and gained her additional friends for- the Easter Handicap.
Shy (Wiggins) had Tybalt (Gilcrist) as a companion over a mile run in 1.42 4-5. Shy was doing his work well at the finish, and his effort was impressive. Tybalt also went better than usual.
Tooley Street; after taking 38 1-5 sec. for his first three furlongs, traversed seven in 1.30 3-5. This horse is improved.
Kelly (Gilchrist), Gay "Broney (Cole), Royal Appellant (Cameron), and High Tea (Horne) were associated over a mile, which occupied 1.43 3-5. Kelly, who had a lightweight up and was on the outside, finished in front, the other three being bunched less than a length away. Kelly shaped well, and the others were going well within themselves at the finish.
The two-year-old Elanage (Wigglna) was going better than Sir Abb while reeling off half a mile in 49 3-ssec. Elanage is in first-class order for the Great Northern Champagne Stakes next Saturday. Prince Colossus (Clifford) was sent a mile alone. He ran the first half in 51 4-ssec„ and the full distance in 1.46 1-5.
Kng Neptune (Green) and Jack Tar (Wiggins) finished several lengths clear of Thangilamba over six furlongs in 1.17. They ran the first three in 37 2-ssec, and King Neptune impressed most, though Jack Tar also did his work well. On the tan, Knight of Australia (Coon) and Valspear (Craddock) were companions over a round run in 1.23 1-5. They covered the last six furlongs in 1.21 2-5, and Knight of Ausi tralia was just shading his companion at the finish.
It was a good effort on the part of both horses. Armacourt (Murray) was timed to run the last half-mile of a round in 53 2-ssec. TO-DAY’S ARRIVALS. The following horses arrived from the South this morning: Laughing Lass, Smoke Screen. Missal, Mandamus, Francis Drake, Haute Monde, Wildflower, Forest Glow, and Tall Light. Ringshot Rehandicapped Auckland, March 23. Ringshot has been rehandicapped by Gib, making the weight 7.13, for the Eden Handicap, to be run at Ellerslie next Saturday.
