SUCCESSFUL AUTUMN MEETING

OVER £17,000 INVESTED ON TOTALISATOR.

SPLENDID RACING AT STRATFORD.

A very satisfactory totalisator turnover, combined with splendid racing, were features of the Stratford Racing Club s autumn meeting on Saturday. The success of the gathering fully justified the granting of the additional permit. As starter, Mr. D. J. Guiney got the fields away well, and the handicapper, Mr. W. P. Russell, was responsible for some exciting finishes. Mr. C. 11. Washer was in the judge's box. Under Mr. O Callaghan, the totalisator staff handled £17,437/10/-. Mr. M. B. Bergen, stipendiary steward, was present, but found no occasion to hold an inquiry.

AUTUMN HURDLE HANDICAP, Ot £l3O. Over six flights ot hurdles. 1 BILK SOX, Messrs. R. G. and S. Topless’s bik g, aged, 11.3 (H. Dulieu) 1 2 DON ERMA, Mr. S. E. Celaver’s ch g, aged, 10.7 (T. Tito) .. 2 4 KING PLUTO, Mr. J. G. Lippingwell’s b g, syrs, 9.0 (W. Grindlay) 3 Also started: 3 Forest Flow 9.9, 5 Indiscretion 9.0, 6 Callamost 9.0, 7 Sleepy 9.9. Sleepy was slow away and King Pluto took an early lead from Forest Glow and Don Erma, followed by Silk Sox and Callamost. Past the stand, King Pluto led by four lengths from Don Erma, Silk Sox and Forest Glow, keeping that lead into the back, where the order was unchanged. Sleepy then went up a. little. Into the back bend King Pluto maintained his lead from Don Erma, Silk Sox, Forest Glow and Sleepy. At the last bend. Don Erma came up to King Pluto, and in the straight Silk Sox raced through to win by a length and a half from Don Erma, King Pluto falling back to third a neck behind Don Erma. Forest Glow was fourth. Time, 2.49 4-5.

Eagle's Eye from its position second from the rails jumped out smartly. Gay Step and Arahura were badly left. Ohanga was close behind Eagle’s Eye. Coming into the straight, Eagle’s Eye still led, followed by Serviette, Ohanga, Valroy, and. Glenthawn. Ohanga and Glenthawn made a fast run up to Eagle’s Eye, which won by a length, with half a length separating Ohanga and Glenthawn. Dawn Star was fourth. Time, 1.4 1-5. (Winner trained by H. At the fall of barrier Refresher jumped out, followed closely by Lady Kyra and then Gold Mission and Moatoa. Into the bend at the top Refresher still held its lead, with Moatoa, Lady Kyra, Gold Mission and Plato following. Across the top of the zend Moatoa moved to the front, and Refresher, Lady Kyra, Gold Mission and Plato kept close behind in that order. Refresher again came to the front at the turn leading into the straight, and as the turn was passed Gold Mission and Plato came well into the bunch. In a fast finish the favourite. Lady Kyra passed the post halt a length ahead of Plato, which in turn was half a length in front of Gold Mission. Refresher was a close fourth. Time, 1.15. 7 (Winner trained by W. F. From a good start Davistock got away first, but Taitoru came quickly to the front, and when passing the stand the order was Taitoru, Royal Secret, Davistock, International, Tahurangi and Friesland. The same positions were maintained round the bend, but in the back straight Davistock fell well away, the order being Taitoru, International, Tahurangi, Royal Secret, Friesland, and Davistock. When the straight was reached, Taitoru was still ahead. Royal Secret and Friesland passed International in the final run, leaving Taitoru to win by half a length, with the same distance between Royal Secret and Friesland. International was fourth, followed by Tahurangi and Davistock. Time, 2.12 1-5.

From a good start Sanhedrim took the lead, followed past the stand by Tail Light, Reipar, Bonny Glow, Ned Cuttie, Red Sand, and Corowa. The same order was kept going round the bend and into the back straight. Sanhedrim led from Tail Light, Bonnv Glow, Corowa, and Reipar. The favourite the., came up fast, closely heeled by Bonny Glow, Sanhedrim, Tail Light, Red Sand and Naughty Marietta. Into the straight for the finish, Reipar kept the lead and Sanhedrim and Tail Light came through again. Reipar won by a head, with three-quarters ot a length between second and third. The placed horses were followed by Naughty Marietta, Bonny Glow, New Cutttle and Corowa. Naughty Marietta was fourth. Time, 1.57 1-5. After the race Mr. D. J. Malone, president of the Stratford Racing Club, congratulated Mr. Todd on his victory and Mrs. A. W. Budge presented the trophy, a handsome grandfather clock.

Auto Sweep and Gay Marionette held up the start for some time. When the barrier rose St. Cedric was first out with Fafner, Gay Step, Winsome Lu, Gay Marionette and Wildflower following in that order. Round the top bend Wild Flower came up to the front followed by Fafner, Gay Step, Winsome Lu, Gay Marionette and Lickem. Wildflower led into the straight with the field well spread behind, the order being Gaily, Fafner, Winsome Lu and Gay Step. The finish saw Wildflower win by two and ahalf lengths with a head separating Gaily and Gay Step, the latter having come up fast to third place. Lickem was fourth. Time, 1.3 2-5.

Then Flying Chief took charge with Eara, Te Broney, Airing and Dancing Lady in that, order. Dancing Lady came up fast to beat Eara by hall’ a length, a length ahead of Flying Chief.
