M.C.C.’S LEAD

VISITORS’ FAST ATTACK Wyatt’s Century. Press Association—Copyright. Christchurch, March 21. The touring English cricket team played itself into a strong position on the second day of the . match against the combined Canterbury-Otago team at Lancaster Park and at stumps had a lead of 310 runs with two wickets to fall. The home team failed against the visitors’ fast attack when its innings was resumed on a lively wicket and the score was taken from 7U for three wickets to 157. A fine innings by the young NewZealand representative, Hadlee, saved the combined team from collapse. Hammond, getting pace and turn from the wicket, Was the most impressive of the visitors’ bowlers. Wyatt and Worthington in a solid opening partnership, passed the home team’s total without being separated, but no other batsman made a prolonged stand and eight wickets fell ■with the addition of only 85 runs. Wyatt’s century was made under difficulties', for a strained leg muscle hindered his running between the wickets. He batted for 188 minutes. The home team’s bowling was steady and the fielding was good apart from one dropped catch. Details are:
