SHIELD BOWLING.
SATURDAY’S PLAY. West End Beat Hawera Park at Stratford. In the Taranaki shield bowling final, played on the Stratford green on Saturday, West End (New Plymouth) beat Park (Hawera) by 158 points to 136. Results were:—
Previous holders of the shield are: 1912, Hawera; 1913-14, JP.P.; 1915, West End; 1917-19, Pihama; 1930, Hawera: 1921, Fttzroy. 1922, Stratford: 1923, Hawera; 1924, West End: 1925, Pihama; 1926, West End; 1927, Avon; 1928-29, West End; 1930, Avon; 1931, Waitara: 1932, West End: 1933, Eltham; 1934-35-36-37, West End. Mr J. Lobb, president of the Taranaki centre and a member of the winning team, called on Mr F. Mason, vice-president of the centre and member of the losing team, to present the shield to Mr P. Douglass, president o’ the West End club. Mr Douglass replied and Mr J. Goodwin, president of the Park club, also spoke. Cheers Were given for the women's afternoon tea committee and the Stratford club' for the loan of its green.

Progressive Tournament at Avon Green. Fourteen pairs drawn from Stratford and Avon Bowling Clubs took part in a progressive pairs tourney on Avon green on Saturday afterJlfesults were:— '■>.
