TRANSPORT AUTHORITY
SHORT SITTING. Objection To License Not Upheld. The No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr. P. Skoglund, held a short sitting at Stratford this afternoon. An application by Joseph Spearman for a license to carry logs was opposed by Mr R. Fulton, representing the Taranaki Drivers’ Union, on the grounds that wages and conditions had not been complied with. Mr. S. Macalister, for applicant, said the position as stated was not correct. His client had executed a contract with his men on a profit-sharing basis, but owing to weather their remuneration had not turned out as anticipated. Mr Spearman, he continued, was also adversely affected, but he voluntarily made up the wages out of his own pocket. The Authority agreed with Mr. Mac. alister that the dispute did not affect the granting of a license, and allowed the application.
Mrs. E. Mischewski was granted a license for Public Works cartage.
