VIENNA’S LANGUAGES.
English Grows Popular. According -to the latest figures, more than 50 per cent of Austrians' Who learn foreign languages in Vienna are studying English. As in pre-war days; French is the language learned by the better class people; on the other hand, they /re learning far more Italian than they used to do. This is partl.v due to the iTilcreased itjrad-e. { wi|t:h H al/r. which necessitates the learning of Italian, and partly to the efforts being made to improve the cultural relations. 1 between Rome and Vienna. The teaching of Slav and Magyar is on the decline. Russian, which for some time was quite popular, is no longer very much in favour.
