The new cruisers Southampton and Newcastle, which have Just been commissioned for service with the Home Fleet, are capable of a greater volume rf lire than any British cruiser. Twelve six-inch guns are mounted an four triple turrets. Each turret iischarges 30 rounds a minute. The high angle of elevation will enable their use against aircraft in cer:ain circumstances.
