BRITISH TRADE.
Satisfactory Improvement.
(British Official Wireless.) < Rugby, March 15. Commenting on the satisfactory nature of the British trade return for February the Times' says the most significant method of comparison is to show' the figures for every working day. February’s improvement in ex ports, including re-exports, was near ly £300,000 a day when conßjared with January. 1937, and over £365,000 , a day when compared with February, I 1936.
On the same basis imports were i only £BO.OOO a day higher than in I January and about £500,000 higher j than in the. previous February. It is ! therefore clear that in spite ofThe special demand for imports in connection with the defence programme ! and the discouragement of exports, i which some feared might result from ’ the same programme, exports are ; showing a notable advance.
Official returns for British Overseas trade for February show inffForts otalling £78,652,627, exports £538.>72,037, and re-exports £6,927,043. The corresponding figures for .the previous month were imports £75,580.736, exports £39.100,726, and re-ex-ports £5,076.039. and for February. 1936. £62.268.676. £35,110,573 and £5,650.528. Imports for the. first two months of the current year show an, increase over the same period of last year of £15.008,069, exports an increase of £8,092.438, and •re-axpo'rtF.' an increase of £2.062,814.
