STEAMER ABANDONED
Sinking in Heavy Seas. Press Association—Copyright. Brisbane, March 15. The Chinese steamer Haiping, Teakihg badly, was abandoned in heavy Seas 122 miles- north of Brisbane today. Captain Lalie, his American wife, and the crew were transferred to the freighter Mildura, which will reach Brisbane to-morrow The captain of the Mildura sent a wireless message that the Haiping was very low in the water and was rapidly sinking. The Haiping was the former Patrick Company steamer Craigend; which was recently bought by Chinese buyers and renamed. Before that she was the island steamer Marsina. The Haiping encountered heavy weather en route to her new owners in China, and wirelessed that she was leaking badly and had a heavy list 300 miles north of Brisbane.
